Chalk Balls contain the chalk within a piece of material that can be squeezed to coat the climbers hand, they have the advantage of producing little chalk dust and due to this are often the only type of chalk permitted to be used in climbing walls.
Loose Chalk can have either a fine or a chunky consistency and dependent on the manufacturer can also contain special drying agents. It tends to give the best 'covering'. Fine loose chalk is also good for filling refillable chalk balls.
Chalk Blocks are pure chalk and require the climber to break up the chalk before use into loose chalk.
Liquid Chalk is chalk combined with alcohol, so that when it is rubbed onto your hands and allowed to dry it creates a great 'base' for preventing perspiration from seeping through.
