Loading... Please wait...Passive Protection comes in two main forms, Nuts and Camming Protection.
Nuts are thin wedges of metal that are slotted into constrictions in cracks to provide protection when climbing. Most climbers initially have a set of sizes 1-10 and supplement their rack further with various other sizes.
Camming Protection includes Hexcentrics, Rockcentrics, Torque Nuts and Tri Cams, these can be set to be used in either a camming motion or passively (i.e as large nuts). When set in a ‘camming’ position the piece of protection is placed in such a way that when weighted the force applied to the piece pulls it and cams it into the rock, jamming it in place.
Nut Extractors are long pieces of metal used for removing Passive Protection.
