Please wait...Via Ferrata is a method of exploring the more exposed and less accessible parts of the greater ranges – and more commonly the Southern Alps – with little in the way of technical rock climbing equipment or knowledge. The system focuses on protecting high level footpaths, ridges and crags with fixed steel ladders and cables, which are in turn used as both protection and a means of ascent. To fasten oneself to the fixed steel ladders and cables, special Via Ferrata equipment is required. This typically consists of a shock absorbing y-shaped lanyard. The lanyard has two arms, each with a wide opening carabiner on the end, this ensures that at all times you are safely connected to the cliff.
