Loading & comfort:
The Blue Ice 30L is equipped with two removable compression straps that stretches over the pack from side to side. Strong aluminium hooks hold the straps in place on the sides and a stable Duraflex buckle make them meet on the front. This construction allows a good hold for skis laterally, and frontally for a snowboard. Two ice axes fit in perfectly at the bottom of the pack, held in place by the straps and top lid. Other essential features of a good alpine pack are gear loops and pocket and exit for a hydration system. That’s why Blue Ice, as standard, always design their packs with gear loops and make them compatible for any hydration system. The 30L has room for a 2L water pocket.
For comfort, Blue Ice added a pre-curved back panel, padded shoulder straps as well as a stable hip belt that easily can be removed if needed. To make sure that keys and wallet are stored safely during the trip, the top lid has an inner safety pocket. Because Blue Ice believe that even a short takeoff demands top quality, light weight and reliable gear they finish their packs properly and work exclusively with YKK zippers and durable Duraflex buckles. You’ll notice the difference.
Slim/light version:
For the days when you want to maximize your speed and minimize weight you can easily remove top lid, straps, hip belt and the back panel. This gives you the freedom to strip down the pack to the minimum and only carry the essentials with you.

Despite its understated styling this sac has a lot to shout about.
The strippable nature of the sac means that you can optimise the weight of the sac to suit the needs of each days excursion.
I have used this fully loaded with full winter kit in Snowdonia and was exceedingly comfortable, with just the right amount of back support and a good hip belt/shoulder straps. The straps hold an ice axe well and the lid is nice and big to fit an OS, guidebook and sweeties.
I have also happily stripped it right down to use as a weekend bag in the city and the weight saving really is a luxury compared to my old packs. The double internal drawstring keeps everything in securely.
All things considered if you want one pack that can do most things you could do far worse than buy this pack.
