Product Description

Camp Tri Cams are versatile, lightweight and compact, working well where other nuts and cams are almost impossible to place, such as narrow pockets and peg scars. This is due to the fact that they operate using a single camming unit, allowing them to be placed in very narrow positions, where spring-loaded camming devices (Friend's, Camalot's etc.) will not fit. All the smaller sizes are particularly good in this sort of scenario, with sizes 2 and 2.5 being the right size for many quarry shot-holes.

In their simplest mode, Tri Cams can be placed like a standard chock/nut. However, to take advantage of a Tri Cams full potential in cracks, scars and solution pockets, position the attached sling down between the camming rails, insert into the rock and then give the sling a good yank to "set" the unit. To add security to the placement you can locate the point of the unit in a small depression or place in opposition with another nut.

  1. Fit where nothing else will....

Posted by Charley on 10th Sep 2010

In the past I’ve never taken too much interest in Tri Cams and thought that they would just be an unneeded item on my rack. That was until I got one as a Christmas present. They are remarkably light; the 0.25 which I have weighs next to nothing (19G) but yet is proving to be one of the most used items on my rack. I climb mostly on grit and lime and they are great in breaks but come into their own in usually gear-less pockets. I’m still amazed at how many placements I find for it where nothing else will fit.

Before I even got chance to use it (and while I still wasn’t sold on the whole Tri Cam idea) my friend borrowed it for a route he was leading. It was on a very polished limestone route at Stoney. He’d already decided not to take any ordinary cams up with him as the grooves and breaks were very shiny and didn’t look very cam friendly. He got to the crux with the last bit of pro a good 4 feet below him. If he had fallen, it would have been a big swing and a possible deck. There was a shallow horizontal break just above his feet so he tried placing my Tri Cam. He couldn’t see it so was doing it blind. He literally shoved it in and gave it a tug but it popped straight out. Starting to panic he tried it again but this time it stayed in place. Judging how it pulled out so easily before, I had no faith in it holding him. It was put to the test a few seconds later when he came off and to my amazement (and to his) it held perfectly.

Obviously since seeing a small Tri Cam hold a fall in which appeared to be a dodgy placement and having the chance to test and use it for myself over 9 months – I love it. Not only are they light, easy to place & often fit where nothing else will they are also extremely easy to remove (even once loaded).
