Good all round solid belay device

I've had one of these for nearly ten years and it's still in great working order. Compared to other devices it's simple to use and is pretty smooth. It can be used for sport or trad and works well with both singles and half ropes. It's not the gripiest device so with very skinny half ropes it is a bit slick. It's also good for abseiling and dissipates heat reasonably well. The loop is pretty rigid and so doesn't ever get in the way.
All in all a great all round belay device.

This seems to be the default device at walls and centres these days so is familiar to most beginners. Fine with single ropes and fatter half ropes. The smaller Bugette version is available for thinner ropes.

While this is a quality product (as you'd expect from DMM) I think the higher friction devices such as the Petzl Reverso, BD ATC XP and new DMM V-Twin make a better buy, especially if you are going to use thin-ish ropes.
