Loading... Please wait...Belaying on waist deep snow can be incredibly unnerving. Traditional protection, like ice screws, can be next to useless. Now is the time to reach for the Deadman. When placed properly (40 degrees to the snow slope) it will hold when nothing else will.

Deadmen and snow pickets are likely to be the only protection you'll get on steep snow slopes and in the UK it's rare to find snow which takes a picket well.
As such, a deadman is essential if you want to protect a snow climb. They can be pretty effective too (not that I've fallen on one!) but you need to practice a bit to find how best to place them.
The DMM deadman is well made. It's a good size, providing enough holding power without being too big to carry. It's pretty durable and will last a long time, even with repeated use.
However, the price is pretty high for such a simple item.
