Loading... Please wait...Abandoning convention, DMM have thrown away the rule book and approached the energy issue from a completely new angle knowing that weight is the enemy of the climber. The weight of a rope and friction that occurs in use make it the crucial issue. DMM have redefined the karabiner by introducing the concept of a rolling component in the safety chain this reduces rope drag significantly.

These karabiners are really useful. They look heavy but are surprisingly lightweight and the difference between these and normal wiregates is not a problem.
They are ideal for use on the rope end of long quickdraws to reduce rope drag when your placement is off to the side. I have mine on 60cm slings and they get used all the time.
They're ideal for winter climbing where you may be climbing long pitches with side-runners but I've often used them on summer single-pitch too.

I've been using these since they came out they are very very good at reducing the drag on the rope, it sounds like you wouldnt notice it on a usual route but on their first outing I used two on a 20M pitch that I knew well, it did make a large difference and I was amazed at how efficient they were, used on something where you have to move around and they come in to their own!
I would however say that you should try not to use them on your first piece of gear as I found that if you do and you fall on it then the force on the belayer is much larger!
However with having 3 on my rack I am very pleased with them and use them every time I go out!
