Product Description

If longevity is the sign of a great design then the Anasazi Velcro may possibly be the greatest rock shoe of all time. Now with a better fitting heel cup that reduces dead space, whilst still pushing the foot forward, and Five Tens most durable rubber; Stealth Onyx.

Initially quite stiff, in its first phase of life the Velcro is a great edging shoe that is fantastic for limestone sport and bouldering. With use the shoe softens up and takes on a different guise - the perfect grit shoe - soft, sensitive, and very very stricky; perfect for those blank slab test-pieces.

If you're after a performance all-rounder, and the fit's right then you're sure not to be disappointed - THE shoe that every climber should own at least once!

  1. Great!

Posted by Chris Wadeson on 16th May 2011

Unbelievable shoe from the moment i took them out of the box. Five Ten really out did themselves. Took me about a week to break these in at the wall and let me tell you, these are some comfy climbing shoes. The velcro straps make it quick to take them on and off. The sole is made of Onyx rubber, which is awesome for those ridiculous foot holds. Breathable, comfortable, and pretty snazzy looking. I must say I did find them quite small fitting though, when sizing them initially. Ended up going for half a size down from mt street shoes. I climb HVS to E1.

  2. My go to shoes

Posted by Ed on 15th Oct 2010

Without a doubt my favourite shoes. Lovely and stiff making them great for edging with a nice tight heel that pushes my foot forwards in to the toe of the shoe. Whilst I have a pair of the team 5.10s that I save for the seriously steep stuff these are my favourites for anything on slabs or the vertical. The velcro means I can have a nice tight fit whilst still being able to put them on and take them off easily whilst belaying. The stealth onyxx rubber is nice and sticky and so far shows no signs of wear.

I'll probably buy another pair once these wear out.

  3. The Greatest?

Posted by Joe S on 12th Jul 2010

I initially considered the Anasazi Velcros in their previous incarnation, with a different heel that didn't fit me. I instead got some Red Chilli's, by the time these wore out (incidentally very quickly), luckily for me 5.10 had decided to change the heel design and create my favourite shoe to date, I am now on my third pair, please keep making them!

They start stiffish, with a great edge. As the edge rounds off a bit, they also soften a bit and turn into great all round shoes and then towards the end of their life become great for smearing, by this stage they should also have moulded to your feet and be suitable for all day wear. There is enough stiffness to tackle steeper problems, and they seem to cope well with most rock types or indeed plastic, although if you are doing a lot of steep stuff, or a lot of edgy limestone, then perhaps you might want to consider something a bit stiffer/more down turned. As well as the rubber's reputation for being very good (the best?), I found the longevity also great. I seem to kill my shoes by wearing a hole in the right toe, although at this point the rest of the rubber is looking pretty uniformly thin, due to the way the shoe changes through it's life I don't think they would be a good candidate for resoling.

The velcro is useful for quickly taking on/off between routes/problems and suits my wideish flattish feet.

Although the shoe doesn't really stretch the synthetic material does 'bag' out a bit over pressure points. They do start to smell, but what climbing shoes don't.

Size wise, I am about 9.5 in my casual shoes, 7.5 in these and 5.10 moccasyms, both sized pretty tight, 8.5 in the V-miles, which are super comfy and 8.5 in Dragons, which I have the suspicion are too small for me :-(. My feet although loving these hate the whites and the greens. A lot of people mention that 5.10 sizing is inconsistent, I haven't found this.

Obviously if the shoe doesn't fit you can't wear it and so this review is biased by the fact that this shoe fits my foot well!

Hope people find this review useful.
