The Grivel Air Tech Crampon New Classic is an excellent modern crampon that neatly fills the gap between ‘walking’ crampons such as the G10, and climbing crampons such as the G12. The New Classic version features the full strap attachement mechanism, ideal for use with less ridgid boots.

Although the Air Tech has 12 points they are relatively short, making it both lighter, and easier to walk in than the likes of the G12. The short points also provide a stable base on rock and make it popular for modern mixed (snowed up rock) climbing. The only real weakness is on steep ice, where vertically aligned front points, and longer secondary points (such as on the G14) are preferable. Apart from this the Air Tech is a great all-rounder that will be ideal for a wide range of uses.
