Product Description

The La Sportiva Trango Extreme Evo Light GTX may have the longest name of any product here at Rock and Run, but don’t let that put you off – the Evo is a pared down racing weight boot, well suited to the weight conscious alpinist or ice climber.

The Trango Extreme Evo has an entirely synthetic upper composed of heavy duty Cordura and Lorica – a leather substitute. Insulation comes in the form of a Duratherm lining. This isn’t the warmest boot in the world however; as a guide we’d recommend it for Summer Alpine, Scottish Winter and Continental Ice Cragging use. For colder temperatures most will want a more thickly insulated boot. The ankle is fairly low and offers a lot of flexibility for a rigid boot, allowing a natural climbing style and precision feel.

As ever, low weight and in this case instant comfort do come at the expense of longevity, so if you’re looking for a boot to last half a lifetime then there may be better options out there. If you are willing to make this compromise on durability, then the Trango Extreme Evo really is a great bit of performance footwear that should help you to get the most out of your climbing.

  1. Excellent Winter Boot, but La Sportiva need to put some quality insoles in the boots

Posted by Alan Hughes on 17th May 2012

Whilst on my ML training last year my instructor had a pair of these I instantly took a liking to them. When asked his opinion he said they were the most comfortable and lightwieght boot he has had and would recommend them. So I bit the bullet and treated myself
I wore them the first time on a two day trek up Y Garn and round the Glyders followed by Tyfan the following day. I can honestly say the first day I had no problems but the second day I could feel the blister burns on the front of my feet. To this I checked the insoles and talk about poor quality they were wafer thin.

If I'm paying £240 for a pair of boots I don't expect to fork out another 30 odd quid for a pair of decent insoles sort it out La Sportiva.

  2. Comfortable but not durable

Posted by Iain on 24th Nov 2010

I bought my first pair of Trango Extremes 2 years ago to replace my trusty Nepal Extremes. They were wonderfully comfortable straight from the box and the low weight was instantly noticeable. They are comfortable for the walk in, keeping your feet warm and dry but they also offer a very precise fit for climbing. They take a C3 crampon and the soles are also great on rock making them an excellent choice for alpinists. My only gripe is that the soles needed replaced after only 25 days out in the first season and the lacing eyelets burst soon after so I've had to replace the whole boot this year, apparently that's the trade off you get with a very light boot with grippy sole units; a shorter life span. A factor worth considering for those on a limited budget.

  3. Excellent boots for those who don't have time to break in

Posted by Unknown on 2nd Oct 2010

I bought these boots for an alpine ice climbing week last year and once you get used to the flex they are superb. Little to no breaking in, take a C2 crampon and were great on the walk in, on short technical routes and the longer mixed and gully climbs in Italy.
Beginners are probably better suited to the Trango S evo as it would serve you well across winter and summer, from ice to trekking, but for those who want a great alpine and scottish winter boot that is as light as a pair of trainers without the full expedition requirements of the Nepal extreme, these are the boots for you.

  4. Genuinely comfortable winter boot

Posted by Unknown on 9th Sep 2010

As I needed the size 42.5 of these I had to buy mens ones. This had been a big problem in most other boots which I could almost pull my foot out of still laced! The laces on these hold your foot in securely when it's needed but don't cut off circulation when you're walking (well for my feet anyway).
These have got me through a pretty active Scottish winter with minimal blisters. I did my first route last year on the first day that I wore these and whilst I did regret it they were better than I could have dreamed of with no breaking in at all!
I've also had these up in the Arctic for 6 weeks this spring, where I had to kick steps just to get home and they still look hardly worn. Also much warmer than I would have predicted for such a lightweight boot.

Clearly I love my Trango's and they got me through a truly awesome winter so I may be biased, but I do know a lot of people who wear these and would recommend them.
