It is easy to understand the attraction of the Llanberis slate quarries to climbers. Routes on the slate offer a unique experience where social history and industrial archaeology weave a special magic.
Over 200 hundred routes have been added since the last definitive guide was published in 1999. Interestingly, where slate was once primarily reserved for elite climbers, a great many new sport routes (bolt protected) at accessible grades have been established. New routes are still being regularly added to the quarries and the possibilities for new lines are far from exhausted.
The guide caters for all climbing tastes in the quarries, from classic traditional routes such as Stevie Haston's Comes the Dervish or Johnny Dawes' magnificent Quarryman Wall routes in Twll Mawr, through the full range of sport climbs running from friendly F4s right up to desperate F8bs.
Features
The main authors of the guide are seasoned slate aficionados, Pete Robins and Mark Dicken, with Simon Panton pulling it all together as author/editor.
