Loading... Please wait...The Metolius Rock Rings are a great piece of training kit that can be used alongside a fingerboard, and not just as a replacement for one. The Rock rings are great for a general upper body workout as the holds are good enough so that you are focusing more on training the upper body rather than just the fingers, but you still getting more specific rock climbing training than if you were to use gymnast rings.
As the Rock Rings are suspended they will move and rotate as you perform pullups. This creates a more natural movement in your sholders and elbows and reduces the strain and chances of injury. The Rock Rings can be suspended from any solid anchor point, a pull-up bar, tree limb, eye-hooks in an exposed beam or framing member, etc. This means that you can sometimes have the opertinity to set up a pair of rings at your home, where putting up a fingerboard is not an option.

A very popular product that is portable and when used can provide great gains in upper body strength, the Metolius Rock Rings are highly recommended.

Rock Rings Training Guide

I have owned a set of these Rock Rings for six months and use them a few times per week (on non-climbing nights).
I highly recommend the Rock Rings for someone such as myself who lives in rented accommodation with a LandLord who is adverse to having you screw in a fingerboard.
I hang my Rock Rings from a chin up bar and this works fine (obviously you need to ensure that your bar is secure).
Metolius provide a 10min Rock Ring workout on their website. This is a great all round work out which trains body tension as well as finger strength and power. After a couple of months of sticking to this regime I branched out and developed my own (focussing on my weaknesses).
The fact that the Rings hang freely means that, when hanging, your elbows, shoulders and wrists can adjust to their most natural positions. This means less stress on the joints and less risk of injury than with a standard board. Furthermore, hanging freely results in your core having to constantly make tiny readjustments to stop you swinging -- this in itself is great training for improving body tension.
The only drawback that I can find (and hence the 4 rather than 5 star review) is the lack of sloper. The rings consist of 3 crimps which vary in size and a jug at the top (I have also used them as a big fat pinch). Unfortunately there is no sloper.
