Combined with the slot nature of most of the holds, higher levels of ability may prefer to look elsewhere. Other wise for beginners to intermediates this board is perfectly suited to those who want to be able to use the fingerboard for long periods, or combined with regular climbing. The super skin friendly wood enables you to do this as it is much nicer to hold wood than resin with thin skinned fingertips.
There is ample hold options on this mid sized board The steps in difficulty between the holds provide a good indication to your improvement as you make steady gains. It is worth pointing out that at first the board will be quite slick, but as you begin to use it, the board will get better to use as chalk begins to become embedded and provides a better grip and more pleasant to use.
The Holds:
The Metolius Wood Grips Deluxe is quite an expensive board, but for a board that will see at lot of use going for wood will be good choice. Occasional fingerboard users may still prefer a resin board though. The Wood Grip Deluxe has plenty of holds which range in difficulty so all ability levels are catered for.

Bought one of these several months ago. After debating wether to get a finger board for months. i decided on the wood grips as it was both a good price and had the range of holds i feel i needed. The best thing has to be that it looks great, no awful bright coloured plastic! Almost a piece of art. It has a good range of holds for a small board, couple of nice Jugs and some almost flat-topped slopers aswell as several pockets. Some deeper and some just for the finger-tips. One downside is that the deep 3 finger pocket is deeper than the deep 4 finger pocket! no idea why but makes the 4 finger one less useful for me.
Overall a great product, and even if you don't use it all the time it doesn't matter as it still looks great!
