Tech Wash Cleans!

My gear always gets dirty. I don’t know if it’s where I climb or some personal attraction to dirt, but I do always seem to end up with my jacket covered in slimy sandstone seepage from some horrible damp corner, or really dirty trousers from a sit-anywhere rest at lunchtime.

Previous washes have either been with Persil for robust items or just cold water for those jackets for which I felt that a harsh soap was too much. Enter Tech Wash.

I was initially sceptical that it was going to do anything above the cleaning which my gear receives normally, so I tested it on an older Rab Extreme Pertex jacket which had previously been cleaned with Persil. The results were great. The jacket felt, smelt fresh, and most importantly, seem to have regained it’s ability to bead water on the surface.

I imagine this is due to the ability to remove old soapy residue more than any sort of re-proofing action, but the results are very encouraging. For £4.50, this is the best (and cheaper) alternative for a new jacket! I will definitely be using it every time for my technical clothing washes, I just need to find somewhere which sells it in 2 litre bottles!
