Product Description

The Northern England Rockfax guide covers the wide range of crags across Yorkshire gritstone, North York Moors sandstone and the dolorite and sandstone of Northumberland. The book is a selected route guide covering the best routes and crags from all three areas. It gives brief coverage of the bouldering available on many venues, but the main focus of the book is the routes. In all there are 38 different crags which are beautifully illustrated using the familiar Rockfax features of large photo-topos, accurate descriptions, detailed crag maps, route symbols, crag tables and graded lists.

Crags included
Yorkshire - Pule Hill, Shooter's Nab, Heptonstall, Widdop, Earl Crag, Ilkley, The Chevin, Caley, Almscliff, Eastby, Crookrise, Rylstone, Simon's Seat, Brimham, Slipstones, Goldsborough Carr and Crag Willas.

North York Moors - Scugdale, Wainstones, Raven's Scar, Highcliffe Nab and Park Nab.

Northumberland - Causey Quarry, Crag Lough, Peel Crag, Callerhues, East Woodburn, Great Wanny, Sandy Crag, Ravensheugh, Simonside, Corby's, The Drake Stone, Bowden Doors, Back Bowden, Kyloe in the Wood, Kyloe out the Wood and Berryhill.

  1. Excellent guide book

Posted by Susan on 26th Jan 2011

The Northern England Rockfax guide book is a very detailed and helpful guide to climbs at a number of crags. For each crag a lot of information is given, such as parking, length and gradient of walk-in and how much sun the crag recieves and at what time of day. It also gives a summary of the number of each grade of climb (and how many are starred) at the crag. Photo topos make it easy to locate climbs, and coloured numbers make it easy to find the grade of climb you want. Everything that could be expected from a guide book.

  2. Clear and concise

As I've come to expect from previous rock fax publications this guidebook is very easy to use and invaluable for anyone not familiar with the crags covered. Nice full colour topos and description make it easy to stay on line and avoid ending up out of you depth. Obviously there are alot of climbs to cram in and they do there best to include a wide range of "good" climbs, this isn't the definitive guide for each crag by any means but unless you want to carry a few phone books worth round with you you wouldn't get any better. Could maybe do with a waterproof cover but that would no doubt push the price even higher.
