Loading... Please wait...The Ball Lock works in a similar line to Twist Lock Carabiners that you may be more familiar with. Basically to open the gate you squeeze the green ball, then twist the gate, and then open, after a few practice goes it is very easy to operate.
The D shape makes is a good for general use, strong and compact. It also has a keylock nose stop snagging on gear. One of its strengths is its strength, its rating on the long axis is 28kN so makes for an ideal rigging biner.

I have one of these which I now use with my Gri Gri or Cinch, though originally I used it as a strong rigging biner (28kN on major axis).
The ball lock mechanism is not always to everyones tastes. But I like it and it is simple to use, just as easy as a twistlock mechanism, and so far I have never had any problems with it.
