  1. Good all round harness

Posted by Lee Upton on 26th Jan 2011

I have had this harness 2 years and it has seen me move from indoor leading to out door trad. It feels very sturdy and has plenty of padding to protect your thighs and lower back on falls and hanging belays. Gear loops are very well attached but could use and extra loop or two for additional gear. I have the size 2 which fits my larger frame but would fit a large range of sizes.
A very good all round/ intermediate Harness for larger people, I have recommended it to other people.

  2. Nice Harness

Posted by Harry on 25th Nov 2010

I have been using the corax for coming up to 2 years now. I have used this harness for climbing trad, sport, winter and the odd aiding situiation. It has performed well in all of these. The corax has very well padded waiste and leg loops. This padding has allowed me to be as comfortable as possible on haning belays, whilst falling off and holding lead falls. The padding doesnt seem to absorb much if any water so is great for winter use. The down side is that it does get a little warm on spanish sport climbing trips. For an all round performer you really cant go wrong with the corax.

  3. A Great all rounder

I have had this harness for over two years now. It has served me very well and I find almost no fault with it. The best thing about the harness is the amount of padding on the waist and leg loops. I provides a comfortable place to be in the wall or on those long drawn out red-point attempts. I have used it in winter and again it is very user friendly in the cold and with gloves. The double waist adjustment makes for easy fitting.

In summary, you WILL get your money's worth with the Corax, it won't let you down!

  4. Excellent versatile harness

Petzl have created a real gem here. The range of adjustment on the corax is superb. The range easily copes with summer clothing and thick winter layers. The buckles are the self-locking type so there's no faff rethreading them and the waist-belt is easily centred however big or small you are. The padding is thin and stiff but the areas of the belt and leg loops are large so it's generally quite comfortable to hang in.

The only thing I dislike about this harness is the gear loops. They're flexible to fit under a rucksack but they are much harder to use than the normal rigid loops, not ideal if you're in a desperate situation.

Conclusion: A great all round harness, well made and durable.

  5. Petzl Corax Harness

Posted by Luca Celano on 9th Sep 2010

One thing which has confused me about harness sizes is the makers tendency to err on the larger side of things. With so many climbers being of the skinnier build it would seem to make sense to pitch harnesses which fitter smaller frames. I certainly found problems finding a harness which sat correctly and felt comfortable enough for long multipitch routes. I take a 28” waist trouser, and the smallest Corax size fits perfectly.

The double buckle mechanism Petzl have employed means that you get size adjustment on both sides. Not only does this mean that it will fit a far greater size of person more accurately, it also means that the harness can be balanced so that the belay loop is at the front, even if you have a load of gear on one side pulling it down.
The harness seems at home worn with shorts and a T for summer routes or over more layers for serious colder climbs. The belay loop is quite stiff and feels very, very, solid. Plenty of gear loops make racking easy, and the shape of the loops means that getting that vital bit of gear off isn’t a particular problem with one hand.

The only criticism is that the leg loops have a tendency to flip inside out when it’s put in the bag, leading to a two-minute delay every time it comes to gearing up, but this could just be user problem!

Overall, the best harness I’ve got, and the one that sees the most use. When this one gets retired, I hope I’ll still be able to get another.
