The Petzl Zypher has been available for some time and it still a popular choice for Via Ferrata, even alongside the more recent Petzl Scorpio Via Ferrata kit. On a Via Ferrata your lanyard system needs to be able to withstand a great deal of force in the event of a fall, often more force then when rock climbing. As such this is why specialist kit is required.

In the event of a fall the rope pulls through the metal friction device, absorbing the energy of the fall, so that you take less. This length of rope is kept out of your way by using the plastic clip attached to one of your harness gear loops. It is attached via the twisted webbing loop to your harness. The twist is so that it fits better on your harnesses belay loop with a lark's foot. This Petzl Zypher comes with the two Vertigo auto locking carabiners, which are simple and convenient to use.
