Loading... Please wait...The Corona VCR is a mid to high level bouldering and sport climbing velcro shoe from the Red Chili stable. Heavily re-designed since the previous incarnation of this model the Corona now comes with more rubber, a low stretch synthetic upper and a sleek and stylish new look!
Velcro straps allow the Corona to be quickly thrown on and off between routes and problems - perfect for sport cragging, circuit bouldering and indoor walls.
Fit wise the Corona has a fairly low volume toe box - the rubber strap keeping the toes pressed down as well as providing toe hooking grip. The overall shape is strongly assymmetric, although unusually with quite a flat foot profile. The heel is quite narrow and well covered in rubber giving it a solid feel on heel hooks. The heel rand is not too heavily tensioned, so good for those with a sensitive achilles.
In comparison to some our other shoes the Corona is probably most similar to the La Sportiva Katana or Evolv Pontas, although the fit is different to either.

Now on my second pair I still love the fit BUT they get trashed very quickly! Recently took a new pair to Spain for a solid week of sport climbing, they came back trashed! The rubber wares so quick, I used my first pair indoor for a few months, trashed. Now have two pairs of comfortable yet short lived shoes.

I bought these as a sport climbing and bouldering shoe, and to be honest I'm utterly disappointed. Whilst they fit quite well and don't stretch too much, the rubber is awful, to the point where I have stopped using them. They may be fine as a low to mid grade trad shoe but for higher end stuff, stay clear. Dear Red Chili, please go back to Vibram!

A good compromise between an entry level shoe and a full on technical shoe that won’t demand too much of untrained feet.
I owned the old model of this shoe before upgrading to this one. Differences are immediate, somehow this is a slightly better fit, there is more rubber by the inner toe (the old version wore through after a few months of use) and the back of the shoe doesn't dig into your ankle as much.
Cons to this are obvious that this shoe does have the aggressiveness of some more advanced shoes and these couldn't be worn all day.
Pros are tapering point on the big toe allowing for very solid placement on small pebbles or ledges and the extra rubber on the heel and on top of the front of the foot is invaluable for heel and toe hooks.

I have recently brought a pair of the new Corona VCRs to replace my old pair. First difference is that these shoes have synthetic uppers so there is not a great deal of give in the fabric so make sure you get a good fit. I have had to go from a 9.5 in the old shoe to a 10.5 in the new ones. There is a lot more rubber around the sides of the shoe so feel very stable. The sole is flexible allowing them to be used as an intermediate all round shoe. I do like them but not as much as my old leather upper pair.

I absolutely love these shoes!! I only recently started climbing and I figured I should get a good shoe to start off with instead of the cheaper make, and this was just perfect, from what I can gather the rubber is quite soft, so its perfect for an all day kind of shoe that you dont have to take off, however for the more techinical climbs you may want a firmer shoe! However these are fantastic, i've had no problem sticking to the rock in these!
Im a size 11 in a regular shoe, and a 10 in these, so I'd reccomend just buying a size smaller if you're purchasing online!
