Product Description

If the Matador is too toe-down and the Corona too soft for you, check out the latest incarnation of the Red Chili Habanero Lace. This precision lace-up has been developed in partnership with renowned Frankenjura stalwart, Marcus Bock.

The Red Chili Habanero is a fairly stiff/supportive (particularly laterally) shoe with a low profile, and quite pointy toebox – presumably inspired with Frankenjura precision pocket placement in mind. The forefoot is on the narrow side of an average width fitting, whilst the heel offers good hold, with a low tensioned (non aggressive) slingshot rand – making it a good shoe for those who don’t like a lot of pressure on their achilles. The low profile of the shoe does mean that it offers quite a flat, unbunched fit around the toe box, not totally dissimilar to the old Scarpa Vision.

The upper is a sturdy synthetic construction; meaning stretch should be kept to a minimum and the speed lacing and rubberized toe box upper finish off this fine looking offering to aplomb. Overall, this looks like a good mid to higher end trad and sport climbing shoe (especially if you’re into pockets!), or even a good all-day mountain shoe if sized appropriately.

Specification

  • Low stretch synthetic upper
  • Easy and fast fitting speed-lace
  • Profile toe rubber patch
  • Stiffened midsole
  • Red Chili RX1 Rubber sole

  1. Hard wearing with good performance

Posted by Pete Hanson on 16th Nov 2011

Had a pair of these for 6 months or so and just got another pair in light of the current great price.

They offer a good precise fit and are excellent on long routes and edgy face climbing, whilst also excelling on pockets. I think they also wear better than a number of other shoes I have!

  2. Unusual fit

Posted by Keith B on 2nd Oct 2011

Got these after trying them at a climbing wall demo night, as they fit my slender 'pointy' feet very well. I think these shoes have an unusual fit, which happens to suit my feet very well. That said my climbing partner (who climbs in 5.10's) hates the fit, so I suspect these wont be for everyone, as they do offer a fairly unique fit. I would also imagine the pointy toe box would be good for those who climb on pockets a lot.
