Loading... Please wait...The Hipsac Classic is a simple efficient bum bag design which incorporates everything you need in a running bum bag without the clutter of over design and extra weight.
The Hipsac is the optimum size for running while allowing enough space for lightweight waterproofs hat gloves map compass and whistle. Hipsacs were originally designed and developed on the Cumbria Fells and as a testimony to the product's timeless design and durability. We regularly see Hipsacs which were manufactured in the mid 80's at orienteering events and fell races today.
We also make the Hipsac Superlite; weight 65g. If you're looking of maximum weight efficiency the Hipsac Superlite has the edge. For all round durability across a a multitude of activities, choose the Hipsac Classic.
What really makes the Hipsac work are the side panels and side ears. The side panels ergonomic shape extends into the elongated triangle of the side ears. The 25mm webbing waist belt extends through the side ears and terminates in the side panel which enables load and bounce to be gradually focused down through the side panel, side ears and lastly to the waist belt which is secured with a 25mm side release buckle.
Short 15mm straps add the final compression required to bring the load into the small of your back, eliminating any irritating bounce on the run. Tabs on the end of the compression straps mean that they are quick to release, allowing easy access to the zip compartment.
The bum bag that dosen't bounce on the run!
In Use Tip: Release compression straps, slide Hipsac to your front, access food or clothing, slide Hipsac to your back, pull on compression strap tabs to re-secure load. The waist belt has a 25mm triglide on the loose end which means your can thread spare webbing back through the triglide once you have your waist size set. This alleviates the need for constant loosening and readjustment.

The Hipsac classic is an excellent design. The size is perfect for carrying lightweight waterproofs, hat, gloves etc., i.e. everything that would be needed for a longer fell run or race.
The materials used are light but feel strong and the whole thing seems well made. The side compression straps do a good job of pulling the Hipsac into your back when you run, meaning that bounce is effectively minimised.
When I first used the Hipsac, I found that the compression straps would regularly work themselves loose as I ran. I emailed Rock + Run about the problem who responded very promptly, apologised and arranged to send me a replacement. The problem has not occurred with the replacement Hipsac. In short, excellent customer service.

I have a green Rock and Run bumbag from at least 20 years ago (£5) and though it's getting a bit tatty now, I use it all the time for running, walking and cycling. My partner has tried at least three other makes - none of which were as good. It's also great as a very light shoulder-bag when on holiday and as a front worn money pouch when running a bar.

I've had one of these bun bags for 20 years and can't fault it. Light simple and bomb proof, none of extra stuff that you don't need. Perfect for fell running. Fits all you need in for long races.
