The Instinct Lace Up is a smart addition to the Scarpa performance rock shoe line up, offering excellent levels of edging, heel hooking and ‘toe grab’, and achieving this without the shoes needing to be worn cripplingly tight on the feet. The Scarpa Instinct uses the ‘revolutionary’ Vibram XS GRIP2 rubber, and having substantially used these shoes this does seem very good, from both a traction and longevity point of view.

In spite of the fact you do not need to crush your feet into these boots, to get good levels of performance, you may want to down size a little as the do stretch and give out somewhat, however we found this only allowed for an even more customized fit, especially if accounted for at the initial point of purchase.

Overall a superb shoe ideal for performance trad, sport climbing and even bouldering.
