The 126 graded scramble routes in this guidebook explore the rocks and ghylls of the English Lake District in Langdale, Coniston, Duddon, Eskdale, Longsleddale and Kentmere. Scrambling (rougher walking routes where you’ll need to use your hands) is becoming increasingly popular, and is a way of enjoying the wilder Lakeland.

Seasons: Not suitable in winter or bad weather conditions.

Centres: Ambleside, Coniston, Langdale valley, Seathwaite, Boot, Staveley, Tebay

Difficulty Level: All scrambles graded. Easiest are suitable for adventurous walkers. Higher grades require rope and mountaineering skills.

Must See: Esk Gorge, Crescent Climb (Pavey Ark), Long Crag Buttress, Pike of Stickle, Raven Crag (Yewdale), Easy Terrace (Dow Crag)

Good coverage of the Lakes in 1 guide – Rating 4

On the whole this is a great guide book that has a hardwearing cover, and is sized so that it fits easily in pockets and map cases. The small size means its is easy to use out on the hills.
The topo’s are mainly all diagrams and are reasonably easy to follow with the help of the route descriptions. Some photo-topo’s would make it easier to follow some of the more complicated routes though.
The guidebook covers most areas of the Lake District and it is easy to find the scrambles of any grade with a quick glance at the rear of the book.
On the whole this was a great buy and has seen much use!
