The Scarpa Rebel Pro GTX is a truly groundbreaking technical winter climbing boot which combines state of the art materials and a new last (developed in conjunction with 'The Swiss Machine' Ueli Steck), to produce one of the lightest and most precisely fitting mountaineering boots ever made.
Scarpa have called this new construction 'sock-fit' and this doesn't seem to be much of an exaggeration when applied to this particular boot. The tongue, cuff and flex point of the boot are formed around a single piece of Schoeller 'S-Tech' fabric. Even putting your feet into these boots feels more like slipping into a sock than a traditional bellows tongue boot. To spread the load of the laces over the tongue the fabric is injected with plastic ribs. The end result of this is that the Rebel Pro provides an exceptional amount of ankle flexibilty, allowing for a more natural 'rock climbing' style of movement on ice and mixed ground.
The New NAG last focusses power over the toe/front of the boot, for great climbing sensitivity. The general shape of the boot still has the classic Scarpa fit though (quite high volume and wide around the heel and toe box).
Given all of this we wouldn't be surprised if the Rebel Pro becomes one of the boots of choice for technical winter climbing over the next couple of years...
