Goggles and Glasses
Goggles are essential pieces of eye protection to have for use in wintery and snowy environments. They are categorised by how much light they transmit. The categorisation scale starts with Cat 0 (clear and transmits 100% of visible light) and goes to Cat 4 (transmits 3-8% of visible light).
Cat 0 goggles are designed to be used in poor light conditions such as whiteouts and blizzards (read likely Scottish, Welsh or Lakeland conditions) and protect your face and eyes from the wind and snow.
Cat 4 goggles are designed for use in very bright conditions i.e. on glaciers and high altitude mountaineering. In snowy mountainous terrain up to 85% of the sun's harmful UV rays can be reflected, with the intensity increased by up to 10% for every 1000 metres of ascent. Due to how dark they are they are not suitable for driving in and are not as versatile as Cat 3 goggles which, while transmitting more light, are still suitable for most uses (apart from prolonged exposure at high altitude).
The Julbo Goggles we sell are all double-lensed and have an anti-fog coating.
